The Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council (ACIITC) is collaborating with the Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency) to deliver My Health Record Guidelines for Residential Aged Care.

Background

The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission called for universal adoption of digital technology and My Health Record (recommendation 68). The Agency has been working towards supporting aged care providers to adopt My Health Record into their service delivery.

With this aim, the Agency established an Aged Care Working Group formed with ACIITC, Allied Health Professionals Australia (AHPA), Leading Age Services Australia (LASA), Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) and Australian Nursing Midwifery Foundation (ANMF) in early 2021 to assist with the uptake of My Health Record in Aged Care. The group supported the development of a draft My Health Record Security and Access Policy template and a draft Table of Contents for My Health Record Guidelines in Aged Care.

As a result of this initiative, ACIITC was engaged, in collaboration with ACSA and LASA, to develop a fit-for-purpose My Health Record Guideline for Aged Care to support aged care providers to register, connect and use My Health Record.

In 2023, The Agency approached ACIITC to publish My Health Record Guidelines for Residential Aged Care and undertake education and awareness virtual events.

The My Health Record Guideline in Residential Aged Care (version 3) is available to download by clicking here.  

Please note: The guidelines were updated on 21 May 2024 and encompass various updates and clarifications throughout the document. Notable changes include revised definitions, alignment with legislation regarding My Health Record access, adjustments to the policy recommendations, improved language for transparency, and links to authoritative external resources. These modifications aim to enhance the document’s accuracy, compliance, and user-friendliness while ensuring it reflects the latest guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Education and Awareness Sessions

ACIITC held online sessions to provide an overview of the My Health Record Guidelines for Residential Aged Care and outlining how the guidelines can be implemented into service to help achieve Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety Recommendation 68.
